mitts

Time to bin your old sponges and move on!

If you're looking for a scratchless wash, using a wash mitt or wash pad with long fibres is a huge step in the right direction. Read how to catch and release grit with the right fibres!

1    What does it do? - Layers of soft fibres keep dirt away from your paintwork.
2    Different types - Lambs wool, synthetic & microfibre.
3    How & when to use it - Mitt rinsing, using 2 mitts & 1 for wheels.
4    The one for you - Choosing made simple.

1 A good wash mitt

What's the difference, really.

Your classic wash sponges pick up and hold grit with nowhere to go, ready to scratch back into your paintwork next time you wipe. So what's the magic in the microfibres?

Holds much more water & soap, keeping application well lubricated and scratch-free.
Long, soft fibres pick up dirt safely and smoothly.
Multiple layers of fibres store dirt underneath the surface, keeping the grit away from your paintwork.
Safely release grit into your rinsing bucket when rubbed underwater with fingers or Grit Guard washboard.

2 The right fibres

Here's why we recommend microfibre mitts:

Lambs wool

The real deal, super soft, long fibres.

Softest & safest long, natural fibres.
Traps grit incredibly well.
Doesn't release grit making it really tough to maintain.
Not machine washable.
Deteriorates quickly.

Synthetic lambs wool

Soft fibres, but you still can't throw it in the washing machine!

Cheaper than real wool.
Works almost as well as real wool.
Not machine washable.
Longer lasting.

Microfibres

The new standard.

Traps grit extremely well.
Releases grit easily back into your rinse bucket.
Easy to clean in the washing machine.
Extremely long-lasting.

3 Here are a few pointers

To get you on your way.

Rinsing

Once you've picked up the dirt & grit, release it into your rinsing bucket by rubbing your fingers through the fibres underwater, or against your Grit Guard washboard.

The grit will simply fall to the bottom of the bucket, trapped under your Grit Guard insert, nowhere near your paintwork.

See our ideal bucket setup.

The 2-mitt technique

One for the main panels (roof, hood & doors), and another for the grittier bits (nose, door jambs & back bumper).

We like to use different coloured mitts so we don't forget which is which!

Here's our guide to the Weekly Wash.

Wheel mitts

Ok, so maybe it's a 3-mitt technique. The thicker material keeps your hand safe from sharp wheel elements and has very soft fibres, safe on even the most delicate of wheel finishes.

If your mitt has an extra thumb you'll also be able to access all areas of your intricate rim details with ease.

Pro Tip: To wash your mitt, throw it in the machine with any other microfibre accessories. See label for details.
